The belt has a steel core (6) with a plastic cladding (4) to form a semi rigid support to guide the seat belt clasp both ways along the guide. The steel core is single stranded or profiled. The steel is clad with plastic through a simple extrusion process for a low cost component. The single strand can be replaced by a pattern of thinner strands embedded in the plastic.
