Limited term storage unit for low activity waste - is cast iron box with rounded edges containing pref. cast iron vessels

A storing or depositing unit for retrievable storage of radioactive waste consists of a "cage" pallet with several vessels mounted on it. The pallet (1) is an integral cast iron tank with a lid (4), is rectangular in plan with rounded edges (5) and corners to give it strength. The vessels (2) are pref. also rectangular or square in plan, with rounded corners to fit into the pallet. The vessels also are pref. of cast iron. In particular for the limited term storage of low activity wastes in geological deposits. Compared with previous arrangements, the "cage" pallet now has a shielding function.
