Hot rolling mill train used esp. to produce small or medium steel rods or profiles is followed by a cooling bed, to which the rods etc. are transported via a roller track. While on the track, the rods are exposed to travelling magnetic or electrical fields employed to apply acceleration or braking forces to the rods. The acceleration or braking forces are applied in the longitudinal direction of the rod, but additional electromagnetic forces may also be applied at 90 deg. to the direction of travel (R) of the rod. One pref. appts. employs pairs of linear motors located between the rollers forming the track. One motor in each pair is located below the rod, the other being mounted above the rod. A hot rolled rod (W) travels (R) over rollers (1a) of roller track (1), which is provided with a row of pairs of linear motors (4,5). Levers (5a) and levers (4a) are used to move each motor (4,5) vertically to obtain a desired air-gap (S). Each motor (4,5) has grooves (7) contg. stator windings (8) fed with three-phase a.c., so an acceleration force can be applied in direction (R) or a braking force exerted. The ribs (9) between grooves (7) are provided with pole pieces (10) for optimum distribution of the magnetic flux.
|
