A liq. turbulence brake is used so that sudden increases in wind strength do not lead to damage of the associated energy converting equipment, e.g. overheating of electrical resistors. High efficiency wind wheels coping with widely fluctuating winds can therefore be used. The power output shaft of the wind wheel is coupled to the turbulence brake having at least one rotor and one stator. The brake has an inlet and an outlet for the liq. medium and the braking energy is used to heat it. Shortened brake surfaces or buckets of the stator can be used to increase the rotary pump effect. A valve can be used to control the medium throughflow in dependence on wind pressure or wind wheel rotation. |
