The motor vehicle number plate (2) has its identification markings carried on a reflective foil (3) secured on the plate by adhesive. The plate is fixed to the vehicle body by fixtures (1), such as spring-loaded snap-in bolts, which are covered by the foil. To prevent access to the fixtures without damaging the assembly of plate and foil, the plate is provided with preferential break lines (4). The fixtures may be re-usable.
