Cathode bus=bars for mfg. aluminium in electrolysis cells - where bus=bars are divided into two lengths to reduce voltage drop between adjacent cells

The cells are arranged transversely w.r.t. the main direction of electric current flow in a factory; and each cell contains a carbon cathode bed. In each bed are cathode busbars which are divided into two lengths. Bar is bent into the shape of an inverted L and is joined to a long current removal bar; whereas bar is joined to a shorter current removal bar. Bar is located underneath bar and pref. has a length of 1/4 to 3/4 the total length of the two bars. Bars are pref. made of Cu, but esp. of Al. The configuration of the busbars and current removal bars reduces the voltage drop between the cathode bars of one cell and the anodes of the next cell, so electricity consumption is lowered and the cost of busbars is reduced.
