The handler has a movable boom and a suction head at the free end of the boom. The suction head is controlled downwards so that it can pivot from a positon in which its working surface s orientated vertically. There is a further firing element (7) for the items (10) at the free end of the boom. This is in the form of a hook (7) which can be pivoted with the suction head (6).
