In a press comprising a manually operable lever 26 for moving a tool holder 12 to a predetermined position close to the work, pairs of levers 25, 31 are also moved by the lever 26 and actuate valves 22, 21 controlling the supply of compressed air to actuate the tool when the predetermined position has been reached. The lever 26 is attached to a lever 25 which is pivotally mounted about an axis 28 and has an arcuate slot 24 which is engaged by a pin 23 extending from the tool holder 12 and engaging vertical slots 9 in the casing. At its end the lever 25 carries a counterbalance 27 and an adjustable cam 38 which is adapted to engage a plunger 39 of the valve 22. Levers 31 are also pivotally mounted about axis 28 and have arcuate slots 30 which are engaged by pins 29 mounted on the tool holder 12 and engaging the slots 9 in the casing. A lever 31 carries a member 33 which on relative movement between the levers 25, 31, engages a push rod 36 to actuate the valve 21. The pins 23, 29 are pressed apart by a spring 35 which becomes compressed when the tool holder 12 reaches its predetermined lower position to allow relative movement between the levers 25, 31 and thereby cause actuation of valves 22, 21, and hence operation of the machine.</p> |
