Variously shaded multiply paper laminate - has embossed and non-embossed regions which have different hues owing to dissimilar zone-wise compaction

Decorative, heat-cured; resinous laminate has embossed and non-embossed zones, and comprises a substrate >=1 heat-hardened, PF-impregnated, opaque, kraft paper plies; and >=1 translucent, heat-hardened, paper plies impregnated with high-grade resin. The embossed zones of the laminate are of darker colour than the non-embossed zones because those parts of the uppermost PF-impregnated kraft aper ply, located under the embossed zones are more strongly compacted and thus turn darker than those parts under the non-embossed zones. At least the topmost, heat-set, PF-impregnated paper ply is visible through the heat-cured paper ply impregnated with high-grade resin. The translucent paper ply is pure (i.e. non-filled) alpha-cellulose or kraft paper of top quality. The high-grade resin is pref. a plyester, melamine and/or UF resin, a benzo-or aceto-guanamine formaldehyde resin or an epoxy. The substrate is a metal, cement or asbestos-based sheet.
