A protective cover for the guideway of a machine tool comprises telescopically arranged sliding cover plates 6, 4 and each upper cover plate is provided at its outer end with a resilient scraper strip 1 having two aligned lower lips 2, 3 held in position by a spring strip 5, a portion 5c of which urges the outer lip 3 on to the surface of a lower cover plate under a slight predetermined pressure. Air, oil or water may be passed through the space between the lips 2, 3 intermittently or continuously to flush out any undesired accumulation of particles. The strip 1 may be of abrasion resistant synthetic plastics material or rubber. |
