A suppository comprises a hollow rigid cap 1 of a substance capable of dissolving or softening progressively in the human body, a part 2 attached to the cap made of a foamed flexible substance capable of dissolving or softening progressively in the human body, and a small tube 3 open at least at one end and fitted around the part 2 so as to protect the part 2, in use the suppository being inserted into the cavity and the protective tube then being withdrawn from the suppository. As shown, the suppository comprises a gelatin cap 1 fitted over the end of the cylindrical part 2 which is of gelatin sponge. The protective tube 3 is formed with a flange 6 to indicate the depth of insertion, and with a flange 7 to facilitate withdrawal. The cylindrical part 2 may optionally be impregnated with a vaso-constrictor, antiseptic, or surfactant, and the suppository is for use in the rectum or the uturus. |
