PURPOSE:To obtain a branching and joining photo circuit element of less losses by opposing a pair of main optical fibes provided with rod lenses, providing a mirror of a wedge shape having a pair of reflection surfaces assuming an angle of 45 deg. to the optical axis and assuming a right angle with each other between said fibers and providing a branch line having a rod lens in opposition thereto. CONSTITUTION:A wedge-shaped mirror 9 having two reflection surfaces is provided between the main rod lenses 4, 5 connected to main optical fibers 1 and 2. The two reflection surfaces of the mirror 9 assume an angle of 45 deg. to the optical axis of the lenses 4, 5 and the angle between the two faces is 90 deg.. A branch rod lens 8 connecting to a branch optical fiber 3 is disposed in the direction orthogonal to the optical axis in opposition to the mirror 9 and the diameter thereof is so determined as to minimize losses in correspondence to the size of the reflection surfaces of the mirror 9. The light branched from the main line 1 to the branch line 3 via the mirror 9 is lost only at the slight shaded part of the projection drawing to the lens 5. Conversely, there is no loss in the joining from the branch 3 to the main lines 1, 2. Hence, the branching and joining photo circuit of less losses is obtainable. |
