The method of producing diaphragms for measuring electrodes comprises pulling fibrous elastic material (2), such as glass fibres, plastic fibres or absestos fibres, into a shrinkable sleeve (1) and causing the latter to shrink by exposure to heat, the gaps between the fibres thereby being constricted to form capilliaries. These capilliaries result in a conducting connection between the electrolytes but are permeable to the latter themselves only to a limited extent. The diaphragms are preferably produced in fairly long strands from which the pieces needed for the measuring electrodes are separated. These pieces can easily be inserted into the measuring electrode by means of a nipple which can be screwed in and are therefore readily replaceable. <IMAGE>
