PURPOSE:To indicate an absolute advancing direction of one's own motor vehicle precisely, by indicating the present position of the motor vehicle in a lengthwise direction covering the whole peripheral portion of a map indicated by a CRT screen, on the basis of signals from a direction sensor and a speed sensor. CONSTITUTION:An enlarged map A is indicated on a screen 20 of a CRT display unit 2 from an indicating pattern memory. Moreover, a belt-like direction indicating pattern B is indicated all over a peripheral portion of the map A from a direction indicating pattern memory. The pattern B is divided into many areas. When a signal is inputted to a CPU from a direction sensor and a vehicle speed sensor, the present position of one's own motor vehicle on the map A is calculated and indicated by a present position mark C on the screen 20. Then, the advancing direction of the motor vehicle is calculated based on the signal from the direction sensor, and one divided area of the pattern B falling under the advancing direction of the motor vehicle is specified around the center of the present position C. The specified area D is lighted, so that the direction connecting the present position C and the divided area D is recognized as an absolute advancing direction of the motor vehicle. |
