PREPARATION OF ISOBUTYLENE OLIGOMER

PURPOSE:To prepare an isobutylene-rich titled substance in high yield, without using a high-pressure apparatus with little production of sludge, by contacting an isobutylene-containing hydrocarbon mixture with p-toluenesulfonic acid as a catalyst at a relatively low temperature. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. of an isobutylene-containing hydrocabon mixture is mixed and contacted with 0.1-20pts.wt. (pref. 1-10) of p-toluenesulfonic acid at 50-150 deg.C (pref. 100-140 deg.C) to obtain a diisobutylene-rich oligomer mixture. The commercially available p-toluenesulfonic acid can be used as the catalyst without purification. The raw material is pref. a hydrocarbon mixture containing butanes and butenes (spent-BB fraction) obtained by removing the major part of butadiene from C4 hydrocarbon mixture obtained as petroleum cracking gas. USE:Raw material of high-octane gasoline, octylphenol, etc.
