PURPOSE:To aviod the swelling at the peripheral edges of a negative electrode plate so as to prevent the formation of short circuits at a side or bottom of a lead acid storage battery, regulting in elongation of the service life, by coating the peripheral edge of the negative electrode plate with a resinous solution obtained by dissolving a resin in a solvent and permitting the solvent to evaporate. CONSTITUTION:A resinous solution obtained by dissolving an acid-resistant, nonconductive resin in a solvent is speed on the peripheral edges of a negative electrode plate. Then, the solvent is allowed to evaporate, thereby forming a film of the resin on the peripheral edges of the electrode plate. The aforementioned combination of the resin-solvent may be, for example, the combination of styrol-THF or ABS- dischloroethane. Such a resin film does not take part in the electrode reaction. Owing to its nonconductive nature, the formation of lead dendride is prohibited, thereby to minimize the swelling of the electrode plate. |
