PURPOSE:To prevent the adhesion of small lumps of hydrous gel to metal and mutual readhesion and hydrolyze the gel uniformly and partly, by mixing the hydrous gel of high concentration with an alkaline substance in the presence of a propylene oxide compound in a mixing tank made of a chrome-plated material on the inner surface. CONSTITUTION:A compound, having an average molecular weight of 500-5,000, and expressed by formulas I-III (R1 is a residue after the rmoval of OH from a 2-4C saturated dihydric alcohol; R2 is residue after the removal of OH from 3-6C saturated trihydric alcohol), e.g. polypropylene glycol, in an amount of 0.01-0.5wt% is added to an aggregate formed from mutually adhered fine particles of an acrylic polymer hydrous gel in a mixing tank in which at least part of the material to be in contact with the aggregate of fine particles of the hydrous gel is chrome-plated. An alkaline substance is mixed with the mixture while preventing the adhesion of the hydrous gel to the inner surface of the mixing tank to hydrolyze and disperse the gel uniformly without local retention.
