NEW MATERIAL:Heptelicid acid shown by the formula and its salt. USE:An antibiotic. Effective against an obligate Gram-negative bacterium, especially against Bacteroides fragilis, having a strong antibacterial activity against a cliincally separated strain as well as a sensitive bacterium. PROCESS:A strain SANK 12679(FERM-P 5284) of Gliocladium Virens, strain SANK 13379 (FERM-P 5284) of Cheatomim globosum, or strain SANK 13479 (FREM-P 5282) of Trichlderma viride is cultivated in a liquid medium at 20- 30 deg.C to give a culture solution, which is filterted or centrifuged. Heptelidic acid shown by the formula is extracted or purified from the filtrate or the supernatant liquid. The extraction, example, is carried out by passing for the filtrate through a layer of active carbon, etc. so that impurities are adsorbed and removed. |
