摘要 Method and apparatus for determining the position of a sensor (16) with respect to a color screen (10). The screen (10) is colored with first and second colors (12), (14) in such a way that the intensity of each color varies from a minimum to maximum along a respective direction (X), (Y) lying in the plane of the screen (10), the two respective directions (X) (Y) being oblique to each other. As a result, each point on the screen in characterized by a unique pair of color intensities. The sensor (16) is provided with means (36), (38) for measuring the intensity of each color at the point on the colored surface corresponding to the location of the sensor (16). In one advantageous application of the invention, one surface of a screen (10) is colored as described above, and the screen (10) is placed over an object (18) to be ultrasonically inspected. The ultrasonic scanner is provided with color intensity measurement means (36), (38) and can be made to automatically scan the entire object (18) being tested without intervention by the operator, the resulting data being stored and processed by a microprocessor (42) or other suitable means.
