Shaving work on wood is involved in prodn. of elongated, non-rotation-symmetrical handle fittings for furniture. The handle fittings are of the scallop type and they have a shell piece or grip stem piece engageable from behind. An elongated piece of wood is cut to shape over its whole length, as regards the outside lengthways profile required. The end faces and gripping surface are then cut in or on it. In cutting the lengthways profile, the edge of the shell or grip stem to be engaged by the user's fingers may be cut open, with rounded transitional area. This provides a visually pleasing edge over the whole length of the grip surface.
