<p>PURPOSE:To ensure safety by making high voltage not applied to the human body by providing an earth conductor on the peripheral surface of an insulation layer, covering the earth conductor by an insulation covering, and earthing the earth conductor to the hull of a laying vessel when a cable is laid. CONSTITUTION:An earth conductor 20 is provided on the peripheral surface of an insulation layer 6, and the conductor 20 is covered by an insulation covering 21 and made to be earthed to the hull of a laying vessel when an optical submarine cable is laid, in the optical submarine cable wherein an optical fiber 2 transmitting a signal and a feeding conductor 5 feeding electric power to a repeater are covered by an insulation layer 6. As a result, safety is maintained because a potential difference scarcely exists between the covering 21 and the hull, consequently, application of high voltage to the human body is eliminated when a worker etc., touches the optical submarine cable during a laying work.</p> |
