PURPOSE:To enable a permanent magnet with superior strength and toughness to be manufactured without deteriorating the magnetic performance by molding powder of a rare earth metal -CO intermetallic compound magnet with an org. resin and an organometallic compound having at least one hydrolyzing group. CONSTITUTION:Fine powder of a magnet of an intermetallic compound consisting of a rare earth metal such as Sm, Y, Ce or misch metal and Co is dispersed in a soln. prepared by dissolving an organometallic compound having at least one hydrolyzing group and represented by formula I in ethanol as solvent. This dispersion is heated to 150 deg.C to thoroughly evaporate the ethanol, and the resulting powder is mixed with about 1.2% epoxy resin, phenol resin, acrylic resin, silicone resin or other org. resin. This mixture is then compression molded in a magnetic field to manufacture a permanent magnet with superior magnetic characteristics, strength and toughness. In formula I, R is a nonhydrolyzing group, M is a metal, X is a hydrolyzing group, m is the valence of M and 1<=n<=m. |
