PURPOSE:To eliminate necessity of tension applied between the wire rod and electrode in a heating device for metal wire rod by directly energized and heating the metal wire rod. CONSTITUTION:An iron terminal 5 is provided in the inside bottom of a vessel 3, and liquid metal (mercury or gallium) 2 is put on it. Further, water 4 is put on it to make an electrode. These electrodes are immersed in water 6 filling a vessel 7, and this vessel is contained in a vessel for draining 8. An entrance hole 10 and an exit hole 11 that pass a wire rod 1 are provided on the sides of vessels 3, 7, 8, and a steam pipe is installed. To prevent flowing out of the liquid metal 2, the diameter D of the entrance hole 10 and exit hole 11 is so made against the diameter (d) of the wire rod that d/D becomes less than about 0.7. When the diameter of the wire rod is less than about 0.2mm.phi, flowing out can be almost prevented by making the length (l2) of the exit hole 11 longer than about 10mm., and the height from the upper end of the exit hole to the surface of liquid metal about 5mm.. A wire 12 may also be installed. By this way, continuous heating can be effected without applying tension to the wire rod. |
