The hammer (5) for driving stakes making up an electric fence into or out of the ground acts on two plates (8,9) welded to, and of larger diameter than, the metallic shaft (3) of the stake. The hammer contains one opening (2) for the introduction of the shaft and another (1) for locating the shaft into a control aperture (4) which travels along and maintains the shaft parallel to the hammer. The hammer face (6) acts on the lower plate (8) to drive the stake into the ground and the opposite face (7) acts on the upper plate (9) to remove the stake.
