The bag (2) consists of multi-layer flexible foil material and has air-permeable areas in the outer layers for engagement by vacuum suction heads (1) which are then moved apart to open the bag for filling. These areas permit the vacuum to act on each innermost layer (4), thus preventing these from clinging together. The areas may be provided with small openings or may be slitted (3) preferably at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the bag. There may be one vacuum head movable at right angles to each side of the flat-folded bag.
