Thin film electro-chemiluminescent cell - uses solution with medium ensuring minimum conductivity also electro-chemiluminescent substance in given proportions

The cell for d.c. operation and with parallel electrodes, is suitable for carrying out electrochemical synthesis processes. It uses an electrically low conductivity solution containing a medium which ensures the minimum possible conductivity and an electro chemiluminescent substance having a maximum concentration. This substance may have a higher concentration than the low conductivity medium, and forms a saturated solution. The electro chemiluminescent substance is 5,6,11,12- tetraphenyl tetracene and the solvent is 1,2-dimethoxyethane. The cell can contain an excess of solution or an electro-chemiluminescent material alone. It can be driven by a modulated d.c. voltage. Alternatively, the cell can contain one or more reaction ingredients of an electrochemical synthesis process instead of the electro chemiluminescent substance.
