The press has a cutter to cut the pressed workpiece and a length end-stop with setting motor connected to a detector that measures a parameter describing the volume of workpieces. The detector (14) measures the thickness of the workpiece and is located upstream of the cutter (5). A sensor (17) detects when the measured workpiece is at the input of the cutter and initiates the setting of the length end-stop.
