The egg cooker has a base (2) containing a pan (4) filled with water, below which is the electric heating element (6) and over which a cover (16) with vertically spaced supports (24,26,28) for the eggs is placed. The rear wall of the base (2) is extended upwards to act as a support (8) over which the cover (16) fits. The top edge of this support (8) is higher than the height of the uppermost egg support (28). Pref. the cover (16) is formed to provide a handgrip on at least one side of the cooker housing and the support (8) over which it fits has a hollow at the back with a guide (10) around which the lead flex can be wound. The egg cooker is designed to be compact so as to occupy the min. amount of space when standing up on a worktop.
