Composite safety glass. An outer frame is employed to support at least one inner pane and one outer pane, both being made of glass or a polymer. The panes are sepd. by a spacer to form a cavity, in which a grid made of thick metal wires or rods is located; the grid is self-supporting. The length and breadth of the grid are pref. at least equal to the dimensions of panes; and the ends of the wires or rods are pref. located in holes in spacer. The grid wires or rods may be coated with polymer. Spacer may be located slightly inside the space between panes to leave an outer gap, which is filled with a sealing material. The grid rods pass through the sealing material and enter the outer frame. With conventional safety glass, the wire grid is relatively thin, so a roller shutter or similar safety device must also be used, e.g. to prevent entry or the theft of goods in a shop window. The invention uses a thick wire grid so no other safety device is required.
|
