Coil winding machine providing simultaneous insulation - uses wrapping head to wrap insulation round conductors before they are wound onto coil

The machine insulates conductors as they are wound into the coil for an electric machine before the coil is bent to fit the stator slots. An arm is centrally pivoted and rotated by a motor to wind wires into a circular coil. Pins at either end of the arm guide the wire as it is wound on. A floating head, supported on an arm which runs on a guide track, contains the insulation winder which wraps insulation round the wire before it reaches the coil winder. Gear coupling between the winder and the wrapping head is used to back wind the insulating tape after about 135 degrees of rotation of the coil winder. At the beginning of the cycle, the rotational speed progressively increases to attain its maximum value after a rotation of 45 degrees.
