The protection switch (1) is combined with an on/off switch (5) into one unit. A two-armed resetting lever (28) is located between the fixed contacts (21,22) roughly parallel to the plane of separation between fixed and moving contacts. The lever is connected non-rotationally to the spindle of the on/off switch which lies perpendicular to the planes of separation. The arms (29) of the lever lie in the plane of separation and are designed as cams acting against an insulating slide. The arms have a length such that they hold the slide outside its position between the contacts (7,21,22) when rotated in a direction causing the slide to move.
