Fired clay chimney flue - has walls containing at least three layers interconnected by spacers

The flue for the construction of a chimney breast is made of fired clay and has walls which contain at least three layers; an internal layer (1), at least one intermediate layer (2) and an external layer (3). Each is connected to its neighbour by spacers or ties (4,5,6). The internal layer (1) has rounded corners (8) between its planar sides (9,10). The layers and spacers define inner (13,14,15) and outer (11,12) concentric arrays of tubular channels with extra reinforcing channels (16) at each corner.
