PURPOSE:To considerably decrease the reduction ratio and decrease the initial cost of a reduction gear by transmitting casting ring driving force to the outside circumreferential surface of the casting ring via a metal belt for forming a casting part at the time of continuously casting molten steel with a rotary caster. CONSTITUTION:In a rotary caster, a casting part is formed on the outside circumference of a casting ring 1 by means of the casting ring 1 and a metal belt 2. Molten steel is injected from a tundish 3, and a continuously cast ingot 9 is separated by a separator 10. At this time, the driving power for rotating the catsing ring 1 is transmitted from the drive unit connected to the tension roller 4 of the metal belt 2 to the outside circumference of the casting ring 1 by way of the metal belt 2. With this method, the casting ring 1 may be rotated at predetermined low speeds without using any speed reducer, gears, chains, etc.; therefore, the initial cost required for the reduction gear may be considerably decreased and such defects as to damage the reduction gear by the molten steel and stop and work at the breakout of the ingot are eliminated. |
