SELFFSHIFT TYPE GAS DISCHARGE PANEL

PURPOSE:To relax the flickering of a screen by providing a liquid crystal panel in front of a self-shift type gas discharge panel and controlling the liquid crystal panel to its opaque status while the shift operation of the gas discharge panel is being performed. CONSTITUTION:For example, when characters are written on a select line 6a, drive voltage is selectively applied to terminals L5 and L1 from a drive circuit during the shift period in the select line 6a. This permits the liquid crystal layer 9 in front of the select line 6a to show light scattering phenomena. The optical transmission factor from the select line 6a is reduced and the flickering of a screen caused by a flow of display characters is relaxed.
