PURPOSE:To prevent the entry of impurities and increase the rate of glass synthesis by hydrolyzing metal alkoxide while applying voltage from the electrode provided in a raw material soln. thereby manufacturing a gellike porous material. CONSTITUTION:At the time of manufacturing a porous gel of a glass base material for optical fibers or the like, the raw material soln. mixed with metal alkoxide, alcohol and water is gelled while 1-200V voltage is being applied from the electrode provided in this soln. Then, the rate of formation of sol and gel increases and gel formation tiem shortens; therefore, the entry of impurities from the vessel is prevented and glass is synthesized rapidly. |
