NEW MATERIAL:Antibiotic PA-2046 having the following properties: (1) The tartrate thereof assumes anorange yellow color. (2) Decomposition point (tartrate): about 155 deg.C. (3) Solubility (free base): Soluble in chloroform, methanol and water; sparingly soluble in petroleum ether. (4) Color reactions (free base): Yellow to an alcohol solution of magnesium acetate under acidic conditions and red under basic conditions. (5) Elementary analysis (tartrate): C, 55.31%; H, 5.38%; N, 2.88%. (6) Optical rotation (tartrate): [alpha]D<25>+58.9+ or -15.8 deg.(C=0.063, in water). USE:An antimicrobial agent against Mycoplasma gallisepticum, etc. which is a pathogenic fungus of mycoplasmosis in livestock and poultry. PROCESS:A strain, e.g. Micromonospora makanoshimensis (FERM-P No.5192), is cultivated preferably by the submerged culture method with aeration at 25-30 deg.C and pH about 7.0 for 20-100hr, and separated and purified. |
