The water pressure in the ion exchanger reservoir of a dish washing machine is prevented from rising excessively, due to the delay in flow caused by the passage of the water through the regenerating salts, by preventing further water entry to the exchanger reservoir (6) once it is full. Further water is by-passed round the reservoir (8). The water level in the ion exchanger reservoir (8) is controlled by a pivoted (20) float (21) whose arm (19) carries a conical needle (22) which blocks the water entry holes (17). The diameter of the water entry hole is chosen so the water flow rate through it is only marginally higher than the water flow rate through the salts. A breather hole (18) is provided in an expanded flow region (5) so that water entry there is unlikely. |
