The mill starch fraction in a corn wet milling process is divided into a protein-rich portion and a starch-rich portion by passing the fraction through a pair of separation zones arranged in series. Each sepn. zone cmprises a series of hydrocyclones only and the protein rich component is drawn from the first zone and the starch rich component from the second zone. A pressure difference of at least 100 p.s.i. is maintained across each hydrocyclone in the first zone, and at least 80 p.s.i. in the second zone.
