PURPOSE:To prevent a short-circuit from occurring between gas discharging luminous elements caused by spattering occurring when a gas is discharged by composing at least the surface layer of a cathode electrode of an aluminium alloy or its mixture and also having nitrogen included in a discharging gas. CONSTITUTION:In a gas discharging luminous apparatus 33 including gas discharging luminous elements having a pair of electrodes 29, 31 via a gas space 21 in which a discharging gas is charged at least the surface layer of the cathode electrode 29 in the pair of electrodes 29, 31 is formed with an aluminium alloy and nitrogen is included in the discharging gas by more than 1 weight% in the whole weight of the discharging gas. Accordingly, after the aluminum alloy with low resistivity composing the surface layer of the cathode electrode 29 is spattered to disperse in the gas space following the gas discharging, the aluminium alloy is combined with the nitrogen included in the discharging gas to become a compound with high resistivity such as aluminium nitride or nitride of the aluminium alloy. Therefore, a short-circuit can be restricted when the compound adheres and accumulates between the electrodes 29, 31. |
