Animal fibres, e.g. human hair and wool are dyed using an aqueous solution comprising 2-methoxy-5-nitro-1,4-phenylene diamine in the absence of H2O2. Wetting agents and other dyes may be included in the solution and some are specified; alcohol may be present to improve the solubility of the dye.
