Process for the manufacture of an electropolymerised layer on the surface of a steel sheet

A bath of an aqueous or hydroorganic solution with a pH lower than 5 is formed, which contains at least two vinyl or acrylic monomers and an initiator whose concentration is limited in order to avoid a bulk polymerisation. A metal sheet forming a cathode and a counterelectrode are immersed in this bath and a voltage is applied, the value of which is limited so that radical or radical ion species are produced in sufficient number to initiate the polymerisation on the surface of the metal sheet while avoiding it within the bath, and so that this voltage makes it possible to control the growth of the electropolymerised layer.
