Method for rotating a workpiece shaped as a rotary body, comprising the following steps: placing the workpiece on a support arrangement 2, 3 with a radial 2 and an axial 3 support, rotating the workpiece by means of a drive mechanism 5 which is in frictional contact with the workpiece. That support, at least, which is the main one against which the drive mechanism presses the workpiece, is made to vibrate at ultrasonic frequency in a direction essentially parallel to or forming an angle of maximum 10 degrees to the contact line between the workpiece and the said support. In the equipment for carrying out the method, the axial 3 and the radial 2 supports can move relative to each other, and that support at least against which the workpiece is pressed by the drive mechanism is coupled to a vibrator.
