The invention relates to a composite material based on polymethyl methacrylate and to its method of manufacture. The material, while retaining the properties of methyl methacrylate, has excellent resistance to ageing and in particular to the formation of microcracks. Onto an element surface made of polymethyl methacrylate is fixed a coating of polyvinylidene fluoride whose maximum thickness is ten times less than the thickness of the element made of polymethyl methacrylate, without, however, the thickness of the coating being greater than 400 microns.
