1480148 Controlling nuclear reactors SIEMENS AG 23 July 1974 [23 July 1973] 32562/74 Heading G6C A PWR, having a core height of at least 3À5 metres, has a group L of control rods 10 for maintaining a desired coolant temperature and a group D of control rods 14 for compensating for the effect of the fuel temperature upon reactivity, and includes a system comprising upper and lower detectors 32, for obtaining local power measurements in upper and lower core regions respectively, and apparatus for regulating the position of rods of the group D in dependence upon the difference between upper and lower detector measurements. A further group X of control rods 16 acts, in conjunction with supplied boric acid and de-ionate, to compensate Xenon poisoning. The rods of group D may, alternatively, be positioned in dependence upon measurements from extra-core neutron detectors 44, 45. The apparatus also includes a burn-up distribution controller 35. |
