The vehicle seat has a trough shaped seat support (10) and a frame (11) made of rods forming a back support. Attached to both of these members are respective pairs of wings (12) made from folded sheet material. They extend respectively from front to rear and from top to bottom of these members. A substantial gap between each is bridged by resilient cords (15) or a resilient sheet. The two sets of members form supports for the back and seat upholstery layers. Each wing is formed by a sheet folded over its whole length, with the folded edge pointing inwards and forming one side of the gap. The resilient cords are secured by hooks to these folded edges.
