The public convenience for dogs and other domestic animals comprises a bowl formed in a body and with a drain hole at the bottom, together with a flushing water jet connected to a tap, while a plinth on top of the body partly masks the bowl. The plinth (20) comprises a vertical passage (23) closed at the top by a cover (22), and with an opening at the bottom opposite the drain hole. This passage can accommodate a basket, and the cover can hinge on the plinth. Siphoning of the fouled water through the water supply system is prevented by a diaphragm and valve circuit.
