The plug connector system uses identical coupling elements (4), which are assembled in advance in a plug connector housing (1). The elements have the form of a flat plug blades (8) on the plug side. A lid (7) has a slotted contacting section (12) with coupling elements (6), in a stacked arrangement permitting plug connections at right angles. The contact pins may be also of round or rectangular cross-section. In this manner two printed circuit boards can be plugged together, using identical connecting elements. The plug connector housing is preferably of U-shaped cross-section which can accommodate soldering pins or other terminals.
