Corona screen for ends of stator windings - with projecting main insulation and material wrapped around ends of conductor followed by soaking in lacquer or resin

The corona screen is for the end of the stator winding of an electrical machine, and is used to prevent a corona discharge. It can be used on a turbine-driven generator, an induction machine etc. It therefore protects the main insulation. The basic screening material (4) is wrapped around the main insulation layer (2) at the end of the winding. The screening material is made from a semiconductor element. It is soaked together with the end section of the main insulation thereby fixing both the materials as a single unit, using a lacquer or resin as the impregnating substance.
