In a wire cable having at least two layers of strands of which the outer strands consist of at least two layers of wires, the outer wires of the outer strands have a circular cross-section and rest on an underlying layer of formed wires which together present an essentially solid cylindrical surface. The cable pref. has 6-8 outer strands, each having at least 14 outer wires. The object of the construction is to provide a cable for use with plastics, or plastic-covered sheaves in which the degree of use can be determined by a standard wear indicator, namely the number of outer-wire breaks in a specified length. |
