The system is for poultry rearing, esp. for battery hens. It has a number of multi-storey container cages which are moved periodically in a sequence by a system of pick-up conveyors. In its top section, each cage has a hinge-connected frame (7) which is connected with the pick-up conveyor (2) and generates the pivoting of the cage about the horizontal axis of the frame (7). This pivoting is effected by a two armed lever. One arm has a gripper for the cage and the other has a counterweight.
